Project Profile:

Stepping Stones Learning Center

Stepping Stones Learning Center is a not-for-profit family centered program for children birth to 21 years of age with and without special needs.

Stepping Stones Learning Center recently purchased the former Chase Pitkin building, located at 2111 Hudson Ave in Irondequoit, and will begin renovations to the building in November of 2013. The building will be transformed from it’s former ‘big box’ use into a state of the art education space with classrooms, clinics, a gymnasium, playgrounds, administrative offices, nurse’s office and much more. The organization plans to completely relocate from their existing space to the new building for the start of the 2014 – 2015 school year.

Mitchell Design Build worked with Stepping Stones to redesign the space to fit within their budget needs. As seen in the renderings, the classrooms have been clustered and given a “village façade” feel so that the children have a sense of home and a place to identify with. The interiors of the classrooms are large and bright, and each classroom has direct access from within the classroom to toilet facilities. The façade renderings (above) show the façade renovations that are included in the current budget and the “dream” façade which the organization hopes they can build if funding allows; both help establish a sense of identity for the organization.
