Stepping Stones Learning Center

Stepping Stones Learning Center, a not-for-profit organization which offers family centered programming for children birth to 21 years of age with and without special needs, realized one of their dreams by purchasing their own building; the former Chase Piktin building located on Hudson Ave. The organization found themselves facing project budget difficulties after their initial design and asked Mitchell design Build to see if they could use their design build process to redesign the project and get the project back on track.

The project took the existing 50,000 square foot warehouse space and converted it into a fully functional pre-school and daycare facility with gymnasium, 15 classrooms, clinic spaces, specialist spaces and administrative offices. The project also converted the former 23,000 SF ‘lumber yard’ into playground spaces.

Mitchell’s design build process allowed the project to fit into the required budget while still allowing some ‘frills’ in the areas that mattered; like the building facades on the clustered classrooms pictured below.
