From Warehouse to Modern Gymnasium

When Bright Raven Gymnastics was ready to expand to a second location, they worked with Maguire Properties to find a building that could meet their size and location needs. They ultimately selected a former manufacturing building in Victor that had been vacant for nearly a decade. The building needed major upgrades and customization.

Mitchell Design Build was hired as the design-builder for the project, transforming the aging industrial space into a modern gymnastics training facility.

The project included the renovation of a 17,000-square-foot portion of the building with a dramatic 55-foot ceiling, which created the main gymnastics area. An additional 9,200-square- foot area was renovated for smaller studios and office space.

The main gymnastics space required major modifications to accommodate trampolines, foam pits, and other recessed training equipment. The existing floors were cut out, major excavation was completed, and new 12-inch-thick concrete walls were installed to create the new pits, which varied from two to eight feet in depth. This allowed all of the training equipment to be recessed into the floor, improving both function and safety within the space.

A new 1,800 sq. ft. mezzanine was also installed around the perimeter of the space to create an elevated viewing area for parents and spectators.  New toilet rooms were installed to accommodate the new occupant load of the space.

The remaining studio and office areas were fully renovated with new walls, ceilings, flooring, lighting, HVAC, and code upgrades.

The space was transformed from a dilapidated vacant building to a state-of-the-art, world-class gymnastics facility designed to support Bright Raven’s athletes, families, coaches, and continued growth.
